Council of Catholic Women

MISSION STATEMENT

Our Council is dedicated to Our Lady of Good Counsel, Patroness of the National Council of Catholic Women.  Under her guidance we are dedicated to support, empower and educate women in spirituality, leadership, and service.

President's Message

As you know, all of our plans and meetings are on hold until we are able to resume our CCW schedule. Take this break in our full and active lives as a welcome retreat from our normal busy days.  Reflect, pray the rosary and choose an on-line Mass each day to keep you close to God and his heavenly gifts.  With His help we will weather these stormy days.  Stay connected to family and friends and call someone each day.

Martha Fahey Named Woman of the Year

Service to others and the church has animated the life of this year’s CCW Woman of the Year, Martha Fahey.

As president, Martha brought the “Boxes of Joy” project to the Council, an initiative that sends boxes packed with toys, clothing and school supplies to children in developing countries during the Christmas season. She emphasized that for many children these boxes would be their only gift.

Martha is active in the Pro-Life Ministry and participates in the Prayer Shawl Ministry, having knitted over 100 prayer shawls.  She has served on the Parish Council and has assisted with the altar flowers.  Martha joking refers to herself as “the flower lady”. In a previous parish she was a Eucharist Minister and shared her faith as a religious education teacher.

Martha volunteers at Catholic Charities Daybreak, helping with food prep and meal service.

An active member of her community, Martha participates in several book and garden clubs.  Martha is a talented artist who enjoys painting with watercolors.

Prior to retirement, Fahey was an elementary school teacher.  She lives in Frankfort and has three children and five grandchildren.

Martha would normally be honored at the Joliet Diocese Council of Catholic Women’s Mass and Luncheon Reception at the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet. Sadly, owing to the coronavirus it has been canceled.

Congratulations Martha            One of the many Boxes of Joy!

CCW CALENDAR FOR 2019-2020

Our Calendar of Events will again be listed when our concern over the virus ends and St Mary Church reopens.

  PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

Are you interested in joining Prayer Shawl Ministry?
Do you know someone who would benefit from receiving a shawl?
To learn more about this ministry, go to the Ministries tab and click on
Prayer Shawl on the drop down tab or click here.

Those involved in this ministry should continue to knit and crochet the prayer shawls which they have begun.  Pray daily for anyone suffering from the Covid-19 virus or any other ailment.  The Parish Office is not open at this time to distribute shawls.

  OUR LADY OF GOOD COUNSEL

When our Council gathers we turn to Mary
invoking her intercession with the following prayer.

The banner pictured here was donated by Lore
Griffiths in memory of her mother, Sophia Pryes, and her mother-in-law, Anita Griffiths. Lore was president from 2008 - 2010.

Prayer to Our Lady of Good Counsel

God of heavenly wisdom, you have given to us Mary Mother of Jesus to be our guide and counselor. Grant that we may always seek her motherly help in this life and so enjoy her blessed presence in the life to come.

O Mother of Good Counsel, Patroness of the National Council of Catholic Women, intercede for us that we may be wise, courageous, and loving leaders of the Church.

Help us, dear Mother to know the mind of Jesus, your son.

May the Holy Spirit fill us with reverence for God’s creation and compassion for all God’s children.

May our labors of love on earth enhance the reign of God and may God’s gifts of faith and living hope prepare us for the fullness of the world to come.

Amen.
