CHRISTIAN SERVICE

Christian Service

The act of doing work for God with a willing heart.

The Christian Service Ministries works closely with Adult Faith Formation and Community Life to provide several opportunities for parishioners to live out their faith in service to others in the parish and beyond, as part of Catholic Social Teaching and the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy.

For more information or to volunteer, please call the Christian Service Director, Donna Hungerford, at 708-326-9312.

Caring Ministries

Ministers of Care:

This program is designed for people preparing to become Ministers of Care or visitors of the sick.

Training for Ministers of Care to bring Holy Communion to the homebound is held twice a year at the Carmelite Spiritual Center in Darien IL. A certificate will be given to all who attend. Permission to be a minister of care in any parish must be received by a member of the Pastoral Staff.

Please contact Donna Hungerford 708-326-9312 if you would like to register for training.

Bereavement Ministry:

Seasons of Hope Bereavement Support is a Christ centered support group which offers comfort, support and understanding based on scripture and experience. Sessions are held the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month, 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Each Season runs for six weeks. Check the Parish calendar or the bulletin for dates.

Please contact Donna Hungerford (708) 326-9312 to register.

Service Ministries

Daybreak Shelter Volunteers:

Daybreak Request letters are mailed out each summer to parishioners who have volunteered at Daybreak. The new schedules were sent out in August.

Please know that we will only be volunteering at Daybreak when it is safe to do so. We will go month to month and follow our scheduled when we can.

If you would like to volunteer at Daybreak to help cook or serve a meal, please call Donna Hungerford at 708-326-9312.

St. Mary Meal Angels:

Anyone interested in preparing and delivering food to the homebound, please contact the Christian Service Director. All food should be brought to families in disposable containers, cooked and ready to eat. Meals may also be ordered and delivered, prepaid by your donation. Gift cards to restaurants are also welcome.

Homebound Helpers:

We are looking for drivers to help fellow parishioners get to church or to accompany them to doctor appointments. (These are mostly local offices.) Please contact Donna Hungerford if you are available at 708-326-9312.
