Each week of Lent, we’ll provide an Ignatian prayer for you, inspired by a video from Arts & Faith: Lent.
Prayer: There are many ways to pray. One option is through the Stations of the Cross. Our church offers the Stations of the Cross each Friday evening during Lent. We also offer monthly eucharistic adoration accompanied with inspirational music during "Behold".
Fasting: Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence.
Almsgiving: During Lent, we are asked to focus more intently on "almsgiving," which means donating money or goods to the poor and performing other acts of charity. Almsgiving can be done through the Works of Mercy.
“The works of mercy are charitable actions by which we come to the aid of our neighbor in his spiritual and bodily necessities. Instructing, advising, consoling, comforting are spiritual works of mercy, as are forgiving and bearing wrongs patiently” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2447).
